Farmers market open for season

SUSSEX - The Sussex Farmers Market is open for its second season with new hours. The market reopened last week after taking the winter off. Vendors will welcome the public again today, and every Friday, at the Maple Avenue location. More than 40 vendors offering produce, crafts and specialty items are selling their goods from noon to 7 p.m. In Sussex Corner, the Community Farmers Market will open on Friday, May 23, in the United Church hall.

Boating

Operator tests set May 17 and 24

GRAND BAY-WESTFIELD - Boaters will be able to get their pleasure craft operator proficiency card at the Grand Bay-Westfield Community Centrum on Saturday, May 17 and May 24. In recognition of Safe Boating Awareness Week May 17-23, the community will have a testing agent on-site to allow citizens to take their boater exam. Testing will be administered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A training manual is available at www.safetyafloat.ca. Pleasure craft operator cards will be mandatory in 2009 for all people operating a boat with a motor.

Drive-in opens for 41st season

SUSSEX - One of the last drive-ins in the province is open for the season. The Sussex Drive-in Theatre will have movies playing throughout the summer, starting at dusk, from Friday to Sundays.

Conservation

Anglers' dinner slated Saturday

NAUWIGEWAUK - The Hammond River Angling Association will hold its annual dinner at the association's conservation centre in Nauwigewauk Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $45 and can be reserved by calling 832-1230.
