On Tuesday, Greener Village announced that nearly $4.6 million has already been raised for the $6.3-million project.

“We know that food insecurity is getting worse, we know food banks are struggling to keep enough food resources in stock to help the people who are who are in need,” Greater Village CEO Alex Boyd said. “If we can do our part to better supply the entire network here in New Brunswick, it’s going to have a deep impact.”

A big part of the money raised so far has come from the province, which announced $496,310 to the construction.

The province is also contributing $489,000 for renovations to the current Greener Village building.

The centre is expected to break ground in the fall.
