Police allege both of those offences were with intent to facilitate child-pornography crimes.

The Fredericton Police Force laid charges against Jason Kuhndel, 19, on Dec. 13. He was removed from his role as a Woodstock Army Cadets supervisor on Dec. 18, once Cadets Canada said it learned of the charges.

Defence lawyer Patrick Hurley appeared in Fredericton’s Provincial Court Tuesday on behalf of Kuhndel, who was not present, to ask for the matter to be adjourned by three weeks.

That’s the second time in the past month, as the case was also set over on Jan. 18.

Hurley said the delays stem from discussion on a potential resolution with the Crown.

“We believe there’s a reasonable chance we can avoid a trial on this matter,” he told Judge Scott Brittain.

Capt. Jordan Elliott told Brunswick News in December the Woodstock Army Cadets would launch its own internal investigation.

Elliott noted Kuhndel was told to “cease all contact” with the organization and its members until the outcome of the charges.

The matter will return to court on Feb. 26 at 9:30 a.m.
