University leaders, the CEO of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and provincial cabinet ministers were among the 300 people who eagerly listened to Richard Florida's optimistic address at a gala Oct. 1.

The New York Times writer and author of The Rise of the Creative Class told his audience that New Brunswick has a high percentage of people in "the creative class" so is well positioned to evolve from a natural resource-based, blue-collar economy to one where the source of value and economic growth comes from the human mind and its creativity.

The R3 Gala was presented by the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation and Aliant at the Saint John Trade and Convention Centre to celebrate some of the province's top researchers.
