Anne of Green Gables Country Fair

Cavendish, Green Gables, National Park, Avonlea Village of Anne of Green Gables, July 3-6.

Come step inside the world of Anne and celebrate with us as the characters come to life in true Avonlea style! Enjoy some good old-fashioned fun at our country fair: Try your luck at our traditional fair booths. On Thursday afternoon, attend a beautiful garden party at Green Gables and stay for the evening campfire. On Friday morning, watch the Anne of Green Gables Parade: Celebrating our Community Heritage, as it makes its way through the community of Cavendish, then come to Avonlea Village as we kick off the Country Fair! Enjoy our Anne film festival. Check out the demonstrations and displays by local artisans. Come kick up your heels at our kitchen party on Friday evening. Be part of the Avonlea Community Picnic, complete with old fashioned games and races. Take square dancing lessons at the Avonlea Barn Dance on Saturday night.

Matthew & Marilla's Cuthbert Reunion

The Shipyard, Summerside, August 17.

On August 17, beneath the gloriously golden full moon, Anne, Matthew and Marilla will host a cook-out and kitchen party featuring baked beans and corn-on-the-cob! And of course a kitchen party is not complete without down home fiddle music and lots of dancing! Dress in period costume and get in for free.

L.M. Montgomery's Birthday

Green Gables, Prince Edward Island Provincial Park, Cavendish, Nov. 30.

Wrapping up the celebrations is a final event at Green Gables, P.E.I. National Park, Cavendish, Nov. 30, which happens to be the birthday of L.M. Montgomery. This birthday party will be the closing celebration for Anne 2008 and will honour the much-loved author and her rich contribution to literature and our Island. An Anne 2008 time capsule will be created in cooperation with Island students and with writing submissions sent to anne2008.com on display. Several submisstions will be selected for inclusion in the time capsule along with other appropriate memorabilia from the year-long celebrations.

Imagining Anne Exhibition

Montgomery was an ardent lover of beauty and also a careful and creative observer of everyday life. To celebrate the anniversary of the publication of Anne of Green Gables, the exhibit will showcase shapes, colours, and images that inspired Montgomery; it will feature original photographs, manuscripts, and scrapbooks were she recreated the worlds she saw and imagined.

The Nine Lives of L.M. Montgomery

The Kings Playhouse, Georgetown

The Kings Playhouse is proud to announce the world premiere of The Nine Lives of L.M. Montgomery, a new musical on the life and characters of the quintessential Canadian author. The historic theatre in Georgetown will kick off a six week run of this spectacular multi-media tribute on June 20th, 2008 - the 100th anniversary of the publication of L.M. Montgomery's signature work, Anne of Green Gables. Opening night will include a gala reception, featuring a special appearance by former Premier Alexander B. Campbell, who will step into the role of his father, former Premier and Chief Justice Thane A. Campbell, to deliver the show's closing speech. The heirs of L. M. Montgomery, who have given their blessing to the project, are also expected to attend.
