HAMPTON - Kevin Paul Dick admits he stole electrical wire from a businessman in Grand Bay-Westfield on two occasions.

The 26-year-old Grand Bay-Westfield man appeared in Hampton provincial court this week to change his earlier pleas to guilty.

On Nov. 20, 2007, a neighbour noticed Dick's black Jeep pull onto the business property of John Brown. The neighbour took the licence plate number, and after learning that Brown was missing some supplies, gave the plate number to police.

Dick returned a month later, on Dec. 19, to steal more wire. Both times he acted with his passenger, Brian Vincent Alward, 27, also of Grand Bay-Westfield.

Alward was also charged and pleaded guilty.

Crown prosecutor Lucie Ring told the court Dick was on a stiff court undertaking when these crimes occurred, but because of a serious issue with drugs, faltered. He is now awaiting enrolment into a methadone programs and has been making efforts to rehabilitate himself.

Judge Henrik Tonning ordered a victim impact statement to learn whether or not Brown's loss was covered through insurance. If not, Tonning will look at a restitution order to ensure Dick comes good for it. Ring said the wire is valued at about $2,000.

Dick will return to court on Dec. 9 for sentencing.

Dick and Alward are the same men who admitted to stealing several catalytic converters from a commercial garage on the Weatherhead Road in Nerepis this summer.
