Cars, trucks and trailers snak through the streets of St. Stephen Friday, blocking traffic, to cross the border into Maine before the Labour Day long weekend. The long waits and traffic jams on King Street and Milltown Boulevard in St. Stephen will be alleviated in late 2009 when the third international border crossing from Calais, Maine to St. Stephen is expected to open. The crossing will take cars off the main streets and reroute them around the town and onto a new portion of Highway 1, which should be completed this fall. To check how long a wait to expect at the border crossing this weekend, go online to www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/general/times/menu-e.html
