
Three Sussex Rotarians honoured

SUSSEX - Three members of the Rotary Club of Sussex were recognized with Paul Harris Fellowships during the club's 31st charter night this month.
The fellowship is Rotary's highest award for outstanding service to the community and furthering the ideals of Rotary.
Among this year's recipients in Sussex is Dr. David Medders, president of Bethany Bible College since 1990, who was ordained into the ministry in 1980. He pastored in local churches in his native state of Alabama, as well as in Mississippi and Louisiana for the first 11 years of his career, then moved to the Sussex area to lead the college.
Since 1997, Medders has served as chairman of the Fundy Civic Center board of directors.
J. C. Robert Lockhart, the second recipient, was born in Kentville N.S., and worked for Aliant/NBTel from 1969 until his retirement in December 2000.
Lockhart has served Rotary as a member of the Newcastle Rotary Club from 1970 to 1973. Returning to Saint John in 1974, he was chairman of the Rotary Easter Seals Campaign from 1974 to 1984. In 1984, he became president of the Rotary Club of Saint John.
In Sussex, Lockhart created and maintains the Sussex Rotary website www.SussexRotary.org.
Kim Pearson, the third award recipient, has been a regular member of the Sussex club's executive, including a two-year-term as president. Pearson, a financial planner, is dedicated to the Rotary Foundation and is a regular contributor to the Rotary Annual Giving program. She is involved on a Rotary district level, including most recently with the Youth Merit Award program and the Rotary Leadership Institute.
