SAINT JOHN - Assault earns man jail time
A man the court was told punched a woman 20 times on April 11, causing severe bruising to her facial area and arms, was handed three months in jail. He was also placed on a year's probation and ordered to take counselling and stay away from the victim during sentencing by provincial court Judge Anne Jeffries. A victim impact statement filed by the victim's mother said her daughter "was beaten so bad we didn't recognize her." The assault by Jeremy Abram David, 33, of Adelaide Street took place in an east side apartment after the woman tapped him on the head in trying to get him to leave. Even taking in account there was some mutual aggressiveness, the judge told David that he went way over the line. David, who also pleaded guilty to a number of charges of petty theft and fraud against local stores, ended up receiving a total sentence of nine months in jail.
Drank Listerine, found passed out
SAINT JOHN - A man who was found passed out in the washroom of the Atlantic Superstore after closing time by cleaners last Dec. 14 after drinking Listerine has pleaded guilty to stealing a bottle of the mouthwash from the store. The theft charge was one of five to which Gary Louis Sharkey, 58, of Newport Crescent pleaded guilty during a provincial court appearance. All were attributable to the man's battle with alcoholism, said duty counsel Brian Ferguson. Judge Alfred Brien ordered a pre-sentence report on the man before sentencing him at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 4 for charges that include the theft, a minor assault on a security guard at McAllister Place on May 2 and a May 4 violation of an order to stay out of the mall.
Break and enter trial date set
SAINT JOHN - A Nova Scotia man charged with an Oct. 1 break and enter at an east side office building has been ordered to stand trial in provincial court on the charge at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 30. Provincial court Judge Alfred Brien set the trial date for Jason Winburn Saunders, 29, of Windsor, who entered a not guilty plea on Oct. 25 to a charge of break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence at Acklands-Grainger Inc. He pleaded guilty on the same date to simple possession of marijuana, earning him a fine of $300 and a $45 victim fine surcharge. He was remanded back to jail to await his trial.

Should be 2 months per punch = 40 months or 3.33 years and 5 years probation. just for starters .
20 times seriously 20 times and gets nothing but a slap on the wrist
Another example of the pethic justice system in Canada
Strange to see that the justice system praises man or women beaters by giving them the weakest sentence. :(
What a country we live in, I love Canada, don’t get me wrong, I would not rather live anywhere than right here…BUT…come on, how much more can we let these people get away with?
Our justice system needs to catch up with our increase crime rate…maybe in the 50’s, when there wasn’t so many horrific crimes happening all around us, this was a great system, but because we still have this weak system, the crime rate will just keep on climbing.
