MONCTON - According to the mother of the identical triplets born exactly one month ago, the three little girls are doing just fine as they continue their stay in a Moncton hospital.

Marie-Josee Mallet and Daniel Thibault, both formerly of Dalhousie, have been living in the Moncton area for about seven years and became the proud parents of rare identical triplets on Oct. 20. She said earlier this week in an e-mail exchange they hope the little girls will be released in time to spend the holidays at home.

"The girls are doing well, I was 30 weeks and four days when I gave birth to them. They are in the NICU right now at the Moncton (City) Hospital and will stay there probably until Christmas. My husband and I are spending as much time as possible with them," she said Monday.

The three girls, Lea-Rose, Raven and Thalia-Jade, were tiny when born, each weighing just over two pounds and delivered two months early via cesarean section on a beautiful Oct. 20 afternoon.

"The C-section was a great experience very memorable. Both my husband and I heard Lea cry and my husband saw Raven and Thalia being born. When I was put in the recovery room, Daniel was able to go take pictures of the little ones so I could see them right away and later that night I actually got to meet my little girls."

She said the media had been constantly asking her for photos since the story first ran in <.000>The Tribune on Oct. 16. As her former community newspaper, The Tribune was afforded the first opportunity to publish photos of the new baby girls.

Mallet spends every day at the hospital being with her girls, while Thibault, who now works two jobs, goes every chance he can get when he is not working.

"The girls are doing good, though still very small. They lost some weight but it is normal and they are off the breathing tubes €¦ they started breathing on their own the second day they were born."

The girls are all slowly gaining weight but one in particular seems to be thriving. Thalia-Jade has nearly doubled her weight to a whopping 3 lbs. 5 oz., while Lea-Rose and Raven are each 2 lbs. 9 oz.
