HAMPTON - The lawyer defending the 25-year-old Barnesville man accused of shooting at police when they entered his home on Oct. 16 is looking for more details from the disclosure of the Crown's case.

With his client Jeffrey Harold Defazio shackled in the prisoner's box, lawyer Martin Fineberg asked Judge Henrik Tonning for more time before a trial date is set. He made the plea in Hampton provincial court on Tuesday afternoon.

The trial date will now be set during Defazio's next appearance on Nov. 17.

The accused remains in custody.

He was arrested earlier this month after the RCMP's emergency response team was shot at while executing a warrant at a Barnesville home.

Defazio is charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace - a nine-millimetre Glock handgun - and possession of a restricted weapon without being a licence holder.

He is also charged with possession of cannabis marijuana, possession of cannabis resin, unlawfully producing marijuana, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Defazio has pleaded not guilty to all charges and elected provincial court to hear the trial.
