Hampton vandals send RCMP a nasty message
Published Wednesday October 28th, 2009

HAMPTON - Vandals used a rear wall of Hampton High School to deliver a message to police.
With profanity riddled throughout the statement, it read in large red letters that if RCMP show "us" respect, they will return the same courtesy.
Last week Hampton RCMP stepped up patrols at the school because of students misbehaving on school grounds - among the biggest problem is the reoccurrence of graffiti.
On Tuesday morning, students arrived at school to see the sprawling, spray-painted message.
It took cleaners much of the day to remove it with chemicals and a high-pressure washer.
The scene was similar just a couple of days before when, on Sunday morning, police were called to businesses across the road from the school.
There was graffiti on the outside walls of the Save Easy, and both the old and new Tim Hortons locations.
In recent days police have also been inside the school where the boys' bathroom was marred by graffiti.
Cpl. Pat Cole of the Hampton RCMP suspects the acts of vandalism are connected.
He said the graffiti discovered on businesses Sunday morning also had an RCMP focus, with the defamation directed at one specific officer.
Cole said police will continue to closely patrol the area of the school.
He said while there have been no arrests made, the Mounties are reviewing a surveillance video that shows a suspect vehicle and more than one person involved - including at least one female.
Cole couldn't estimate the age of the people seen on the video.
"We're just hoping someone who knows something about it comes forward," Cole said.

The teens in Hampton are, for the most part, considerate and polite (and it's unfortunate that they're all being cast under suspicion in this story)--there are exceptions however and it's those exceptions that are making the headlines--I'm sure 'everyone' knows who the teens in question are--and 'everyone' should be the ones making sure that a 'few bad apples' don't spoil the efforts that have been made to ensure that the needs of the teens don't clash with the expectations of the community.
Now if, as suggested in the story, the problems is between the teens and a specific officer than the teens with the 'gripe' need to know that, just like an adult with a complaint, they can sit down and discuss their concerns with that officer and his superiors.
I do hope they find the kids involved and teach them a good lesson. Harassing the RCMP while in High School is not the best way to start off your resume.
We only have one side of the story.
I don't know why these kids might have a problem with the RCMP but, as stated before, vandalism is not the way to handle it.
