A rocky response
Published Saturday July 4th, 2009

Confirming how much the city expects to spend this year on roads, and how much it will cost to bring all roads to acceptable standards, was not an easy task. Many of the figures were contained in a recent report compiled by Paul Groody, commissioner of municipal operations, but several references were vague and required clarification. The Telegraph-Journal tried to reach Groody every day this week, except for the Canada Day holiday, but he did not respond to emails or phone calls. The cities of Moncton and Fredericton provided this information in a single day; the figures will be presented in Monday's story. When Pat Woods, Saint John's acting city manager, was asked for the information on Friday, he quickly provided the Port City's figures.

I think that the City needs to think about getting smaller. Our resources are spread too thin. The Paper also needs to stop this silly vendetta and leave the Mayor alone so he can concentrate on becoming a leader. If I was a business person I wouldn't want to be seen with Court for fear that Jamie might get his father and cousins to stop doing business with me.
I really believe it's that bad.
And did you actually hear him say that opponents to Peel Plaza should be shot?
If that kind of statement was said by anyone from the Provincial or Federal Government there would be an outcry from the Opposition for that person resign. That being said, it is my opinion that if Peel Plaza goes ahead at this time one of two things will happen, either taxes have to go up or the City goes into receivership,I for one do not see any other alternative.
I do believe that the popular thing to do is for people to slam Court and Council which I don't believe is right. I believe it's counter- productive and it just puts them on the defensive. People seem to blame Court for things that happen which he doesn't have control over and they seem to expect him to do things that someone in his position doesn't have the ability to do. The Claude MacKinnon scandle wasn't that long ago and the only outcome from that was grief and expense to the City. All the while Elsie neglected city business. That's what happens when a mayor gets too maverick. Lots of expense and usually nothing in return. If people are against Peel Plaza then so be it, demonstate -but don't make villians out of your opponents.
I won't defend him for saying that people should be shot though. It just shows amateur . If he wants to maintain respect he shouldn't say things like that.
