HAMPTON - Walks away without record
Elizabeth Marie Comeau, 21, of Saint John, pleaded guilty to obstructing a Rothesay Regional Police Force officer. A charge of assaulting a police officer was dropped. Crown prosecutor Kelly Winchester said police were called to the Barnwood Pub on Oct. 12 because of reports that a car window was smashed. Winchester said an officer was speaking to a male when a number of females approached the officer and interfered with her work. Winchester said Comeau was too close to the officer and demanded her name. She was told to move back or she would be charged with obstructing an officer but she stayed a few centimetres from the officer's face. The court heard Comeau has no criminal record. Judge Henrik Tonning said he was not going to saddle the young woman with a record. He granted her a discharge meaning there is no sentence and she will not have a criminal record.
Had marijuana, gets $100 fine
SAINT JOHN - Jeffrey Leo Vautour, 24, of Longview Court, was fined $100 and ordered to pay a victim fine surcharge of $15 after he pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis marijuana during a provincial court appearance before Judge Anne Jeffries. The court was told that Vautour was found in possession of a single marijuana joint after police responded to reports of a staggering man on King Street West who was shouting, hollering, and making a general nuisance of himself around 9:40 a.m. on April 24.
Drunk driver fined $1,075
SAINT JOHN - Alin Drisdelle, 30, of Pennfield, was ordered to pay fines totalling $1,150 - including a victim fine surcharge of $150 - after he pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle on a city street with a blood alcohol reading that exceeded the legal limit. Provincial court Judge Henrik Tonning also prohibited him from driving for one year. The court was told police pulled the accused over on Charlotte Street at about 5:20 p.m. on April 23 after he came close to striking a pedestrian with his car while travelling up King Street, near the Brunswick Square Shopping Centre. Given a breathalyzer demand, he blew two readings of 140 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, almost twice the legal limit.

A hundred bucks for being caught with illegal drugs. This is funny because people caught with a carton of illegal cigarettes get the minimum $1000.00 fine. Something is wrong with this picture...
