HAMPTON - Rothesay man remanded to jail
James Earl MacAulay, 58, of Rothesay was remanded to provincial jail until later this week. MacAulay appeared in the Hampton provincial court after being picked up by police on Monday. He is charged with three counts of violating his probation order. A bail hearing will be held today in Sussex provincial court to decide whether he will be released.
Past catches up with man
His past has finally caught up with John Randolph McCann, 31, who was recently picked up by the city police. During an appearance before Provincial Court William McCarroll, he was sentenced to total of eight and one-half months in jail after pleading guilty to a number of theft and fraud charges dating back to the year 2000.
Offender must reside with parents
A first-time offender who told the court she is continuing to battle her addiction to Dilaudid was, as part of her sentencing, ordered to reside with her parents on the city's east side after she pleaded guilty to soliciting on Waterloo Row on Jan. 15 for the purposes of prostitution. Misty Marie Millership, 22, who had been living on Richmond Street, also pleaded guilty to breaking a recognizance with the police just three days later that required her to stay away from the same area of the city. In encouraging Millership to go back to the Ridgewood detox centre to beat her Dilaudid addiction just as she said had done earlier with crack cocaine, Judge Alfred Brien suspended her sentence on both charges. However, he placed her on probation for six months, with certain conditions. She is to reside with her parents and to stay away from an area of town known to police as a hotbed of prostitution. Since she has no source of income, he also waived her victim fine surcharge.
Threat to property ends in probation
A man who threatened damage to a Pauline Street property on March 19, 2008, when he got involved a rental payment dispute between his now ex-girlfriend and her landlady received a suspended sentence from Judge Alfred Brien after pleading guilty in provincial court. However, the judge placed Donald Joseph Scott, 32, of Loch Lomond Road, on conditional probation for a period of one year. He is to stay away from the property owner and off Pauline Street. Scott was also ordered to pay a victim fine surcharge of $100 by Jan. 28.
