Urgent need for blood donors continues
Published Saturday November 8th, 2008

Canadian Blood Services says it has had an encouraging response from New Brunswick blood donors this week.
Still, there is a need for further assistance.
"We continue to need more help to rebuild the national blood supply," CBS stated in a news release Friday. "We still have less than our four-day optimal inventory for most blood groups, and are only filling about 75 to 85 per cent of hospital orders depending on blood type."
It is asking people to call 1-888-DONATE (1-888-236-6283) for blood donors clinic information, eligibility information or to book a life-saving appointment.
The Saint John blood donor clinic on University Avenue is open Mondays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the hours are 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
In addition to regular clinic hours, the University Avenue clinic will open on Remembrance Day from 12:30 to 4 p.m.
Individuals may also donate blood at the following locations in the coming weeks: Sussex Lions Club, 58 Willow Court, noon to 4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 14; New Brunswick Community College - St. Andrews, 12:30 to 3:30 and 5 to 6:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 24; St. Francis Xavier Church, Sussex, 2 to 4 and 5:30 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 25; and Fundy High School, St. George, 2 to 4:30 and 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 27.
