Officials will inspect Rothesay restaurant again Monday

ROTHESAY - The China Coast Restaurant on Hampton Road, which has been closed for most of the week by order of the Department of Health, may reopen next week.
An inspection the end of June found several problem areas, some of them serious enough to cause officials to pull the restaurant's licence.
Four of the items were marked requiring immediate action, including dealing with mould growing in the soft-drink fridge. As well, the owner was also told to immediately draw up a cleaning schedule for all areas of the kitchen and assign the work to staff.
"The proper method for washing prep ware or cookware and eating utensils is not being followed," the inspector wrote on the form that has been filed online on the government's website, also noting that it required immediate action.
The restaurant was told to immediately find proper covers for food stored in the walk-in fridge and coolers.
Staff was also found lacking in the knowledge of sanitary procedures to be followed in cooking and ordered to take a course as soon as possible.
Staff attended a food preparation safety course on Thursday, said Paul Graham, acting regional manager for health protection in the southern region.
"I told the operator we will be doing a reinspection on Monday morning and if everything goes the way it should, there is a possibility they will be back in operation," he said.
The owner has to submit a new application to the Department of Health and the regional medical health officer has to be satisfied that everything is safe before the all clear is given, said Graham.
