Man robbed in Burial Ground

A Saint John man was robbed of a small amount of money early Sunday while walking through the Loyalist Burial Ground. He was approached by two males and a female about 2:12 a.m., said Staff Sgt. Janet Holt of the Saint John Police Force. No weapons were used and no one was injured, she said. Two males and a female were picked up a short time after the incident, but were released. No charges have been laid. The major crime unit is continuing its investigation.

Apartment complex fire extinguished

Residents of an apartment complex at 65 Smythe St. got a rude awakening Easter Sunday. A small fire in the utility room activated the fire alarm and sprinkler system about 4:45 a.m., said District Chief Peter Saab of the Saint John Fire Department. There was smoke in the foyer area, but the fire was extinguished by the time crews arrived, he said. No one was injured and damage was contained to the utility area. The cause is under investigation.

Fire in radiator forces evacuation

The cause of a small fire at 50 Charlton Place, which forced some tenants to be evacuated Saturday morning, is under investigation, said District Chief Richard Marks of the Saint John Fire Department. The fire, located in the hallway, was quickly extinguished, but there was a "fair amount of smoke," he said. So tenants along that hallway had to leave for about 30 minutes while the building was ventilated. The fire is believed to have started in a radiator.
