QUISPAMSIS - The Town of Quispamsis will receive more than $50,000 in federal money for a series of green initiatives.

The town will develop an energy-management action plan for its municipal operations at a cost of $10,000.

The goal of the local action plan is an annual greenhouse gas emissions reduction of about 826 tonnes by the year 2011 - a 20 per cent decrease from 1994 levels.

In addition, Quispamsis will conduct a hydrogeological study and map a long-term management plan for its groundwater resources. The price tag is $41,189.

Fundy Royal MP Rob Moore made the funding announcement on behalf of the federal government. The cash is coming via the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Green Municipal Fund.
