
Fundy hosts soccer tourneys

ROTHESAY "" - Four teams from the Fundy Soccer Club are hoping home-field advantage will pay off this weekend at the New Brunswick youth soccer championships.
Fundy teams will begin semifinal action today at the Arthur Miller and Wells Fields in Rothesay with an eye at competing in Sunday's championship games.
Fundy will be represented under 12 boys, under 14 boys, under 16 girls and under 16 boys divisions.
The Fundy under 16 boys team is seeded third in the four-team event while the other Fundy teams are ranked fourth heading into the weekend playoffs.
Chaleur is the top seed in the under 14 and under 16 girls divisions while Moncton's First Touch is the top ranked side in under 12 girls and under 14 boys.
Fredericton is the top team in under 12 boys and under 16 boys.
The provincial under 14 boys and girls champions will advance to the nationals on Prince Edward Island while the under 16 boys and girls will compete at the Canadian championships in Sydney, N.S.
Earier this month, Fundy won the provincial under 18 girls title to advance to the nationals in Vaughan, Ont. Fredericton won the under 18 boys provincial crown and will advance to the Vaughan as well.
The nationals are slated for Thanksgiving Day weekend.
Action begins today at 10 a.m. with three games.
All the finals will take place Sunday at the Arthur Miller fields in Rothesay.
