
Fredericton Chatham post wins

SAINT JOHN - Fredericton kicked off the New Brunswick AAA Bantam Baseball championship with an 8-5 decision over the host Saint John squad Friday. Brett Young, Travis Harris and Matt Morton combined on a five hitter. They struck out six.
Adam Clark and Matt Bursey shared the pitching duties for Saint John.
They gave up seven hits and struck out seven. Corey Wood slammed a homer and a double for the winners while Kyle Lewis ripped a pair of doubled for Saint John.
In the other contest, Chatham edged Moncton 11-10. Billy Gaston smacked four singles and Cody Dickson added three singles for the winners.
Max Maltais replied with a double and a single for Moncton while teammate Scott Arsenault blasted a home run and a single.
Action resumes today at 9:30 a.m. when Fredericton meets Moncton.
Saint John plays Chatham at noon and then Chatham meets Fredericton at 2:30 p.m.
Saint John meets Moncton at 5 p.m. The final goes Sunday at 10 a.m. at Shamrock Field.
