Nine shorts competing

Nine short films from France, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, Mexico, United States and Canada have been chosen as finalists in an online contest conducted by the National Film Board of Canada at the Cannes film festival.

The finalists were selected from among 650 films registered with the Short Film Corner, the meeting place for short films at Cannes from more than 40 countries.

The fourth annual contest - organized this year by the NFB in collaboration with the Short Film Corner and YouTube - gives the public a chance to join in on the fun at Cannes by voting online.

Film-lovers can cast their ballots until Monday at www.nfb.ca/cannes or www.youtube.com/nfbThe in English and in French, at www.onf.ca/cannes or www.youtube.com/onf.

The finalists are:

'About love, hate and the other one,' by Tobias Bilgeri (Germany).

'Historia de un Letrero (The Story of a Sign,)' by Alonso Alvarez (Mexico/U.S.).

'Victor Gazon,' by Patrick Gaze (Canada).

'Papiroflexia,' by Joaquin Baldwin (U.S.A).

'Raging Ball,' by Nicolas Duval (France).

'Struck,' by Taron Lexton (U.S.A).

'Lectia de Box (The Boxing Lesson),' by Alexandru Mavrodineanu (Romania).

'The Execution of Solomon Harris,' by Ed Yonaitis (U.S.A).
